The last build curse

It seems it has been following my whole career on the production side of the games industry, everytime I am in the vicinity of a coder announcing (with a certain pride) something like “this is it, we’ve fixed everything ’tis the last build we’re compiling”, it is bound to fuck up.

This time the curse has been very creative and we have uncovered a nasty hidden bug at the last minute that corrupts the saved game if the player leaves the mini-map under certain conditions.

One wonders why we don’t use the famous ‘if(m_CorruptSavedGame = 1) return UncorruptSavedGame‘ line but Jeff & Fab insisted that coding didn’t work like that and we needed the late working hours to fix it thoroughly instead.

So we’re holding on the release until it is fixed, because even if only 2% of the players encounter this bug it is potentially so frustrating that it would completely destroy the user experience.

Please bear with us while we process the sacrificial chickens to counter the curse, we’re getting there I swear. ‘Tis the last build we’re compiling.

Update: The DLC has now been submitted both to the App Store and XBLIG peer review!

Today Press Start Studio is 1.1 years old

Fab rightly reminded us that it was Press Start Studio’s very first birthday! (it actually was 2 days ago, fortunately unlike your average girlfriend a company tends not to whine as much with this kind of things)

A Nexus One would have been a very fitting gift for this little association of ours, but I was far too busy staring at the only 4 booth babes of the Mobile World Congress to attend the Google conference and missed the free giveaway party (one of them winked at me so definitely worth it).

Twin Blades has some fans out there, and every now and then some of you guys take the time to send us your thoughts about the game, what you like the most and what you’d like to see improved. Today we’ve received an email from Richard S. and it ends like this:

“I bid you all the best of luck in future creations and thank you for creating this still entertaining game.”

This makes a nice gift. Cheers Richard, always heartwarming to read such sweet stuff (even though you are no booth babe).

Happy New Year 2010!

Those of you who have been following since the beginning know of our habit to be late to celebrations such as birthdays, weddings, Halloween etc. Rest assured that for 2010 we took the firmest resolution to abide to our persistency in punctuality failures.

Thus we’re happy to wish you all a happy new year 2010, 6 days behind!

We’ve got plenty of things going on, the most urgent of which being the upcoming updates for Twin Blades. Now rest assured that we have read carefully all your feedbacks and are actively working on adding cool stuff to the game.
We’d like to take this special occasion to thank all of you not only for buying Twin Blades, but also for your kind words and enthusiasm – its been really heart-warming to see people appreciate our game so much and its really pushing us forward.

So thank you 2009, its been a kickass year for the Press Start team: we’ve been rejected over and over (and over) but in the end you showed us the light – and a little bit of glitter too.

[JeffEdit: OMG Phil, so cheesy!]
[PhilEdit: 'tis the last time I give you administrative rights!]
